Tech Leaders Forum is the premier networking and education event for technology vendors who communicate with the IT media sector. If you work with the tech media in Australia and New Zealand, you've got to be at this event.
Back in 2003, MediaConnect spotted a growing problem in the tech media relations space. With the rise of online media, journalists suddenly had far less time to get away from their desk and meet new contacts or attend education-focused events that were common in the past when print ruled and journalists had more time on hands. So we created a three-day event that brought 50 technology journalists together with dozens of leaders from the IT sector so as they could spend valuable face-to-face time together.
Fast forward to today, and that original issue that our Forum attempted to address is even more challenging and pressing. So it's perhaps no surprise that the Tech Leaders Forum has become one of the most important dates on the annual calendar for both the IT media, PR and vendor communities. It's established itself as the one event each year, where everyone takes a couple of days away from their regular schedules to focus on face-to-face communication and discussing the broader issues that are rising in the technology sector.
Tech Leaders Forum runs across three days, from Sunday to Tuesday in February each year. Each year, it brings together 50 technology journalists to hear from, and network with up to 40 influential technology companies. The event has evolved over more than a decade, and now boasts a proven format, that has proven to work for both the attending journalists and participating vendors.
In simple terms, the conference is broken into six main sessions which cover a cross-section of the IT industry. These topics are broken down into themes based on the topics being selected by participating companies, but recent years have featured sessions themed around issues like cloud computing, security, personal technology, communications, IT management, data centres, networking and productivity applications.
Company spokespeople will speak for 5 minutes on topics that see will be important during the year ahead. It's a great opportunity to bring a certain issue or market to the attention of the technology media. More so, this is a great chance for a spokesperson to demonstrate they are a genuine authority on their market, so that journalists will be likely to make contact in the future when they're looking for quotes or information on relevant topics.
The Round Tables
After all of the presentations in any particular session, the presenters will move onto the floor where they will take turn sitting with groups of up to eight journalists. This is a terrific opportunity to meet, shake hands and swap cards with all of the attending journalists and go deeper into your chosen topic. However, it is also an unparalleled opportunity to get feedback on your messaging and understand how likely your ideas and strategies are likely to work with the tech media.
Monday afternoon, is set aside for one-on-one interviews. MediaConnect will poll all delegates the week prior to the event, as to who they would like to meet with for interviews and we put together a schedule that will see each participating company conduct approximately six one-on-one interviews. This lets you go deeper with those journalists are most interested in the market that you work in, makes for great relationships going forward and often results in editorial coverage.
One of the reasons Tech Leaders Forum has been such a success is that it is an event that not only achieves a lot of professional outcomes by day, but we pride ourselves on throwing great parties in the evening. This helps everyone to get to know each other better and build real, lasting relationships.
For those not participating in the main sessions, Tech Leaders Forum includes a parallel stream where journalists talk about what they do and how you can best work with them.
